Individual Counseling
Sometimes it can be difficult pinpoint exactly what you are feeling, or if a specific event or situation has triggered a particular emotion, or a combination of emotions.
I can help you if you are feeling:
- anxious or overly worried
- depressed
- sad or lonely
- confused about your options or next steps
Your sessions with me will help you feel empowered to take control and make the changes that you desire in order to feel better. In counseling, you will be able to tell your story, develop insight into your patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving, do some reality checking, and find workable solutions to problems.
I will create a safe, healing, environment so you feel comfortable to discuss your issues and make progress.
My approach combines the Psychodynamic theory with a strengths perspective. The Psychodynamic approach is based on the belief that your childhood experiences affect your adult life and may keep you stuck in old patterns of thinking and behaving that no longer work for you. The strengths perspective emphasizes your strengths, capacities, talents, competencies, possibilities, visions and hopes. You will feel empowered to make the changes you wish to make!
Sometimes during individual counseling, we may decide to utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. If we both believe that current interactions are triggering your past feelings, we may want to use EMDR so that you can get “unstuck” and respond in a more productive way. For example, if your mother or father made you feel inadequate when you were a child, you may overreact to criticism today. This criticism may be triggering those feelings from childhood.
